VIDEO: Sea Shepherd Vessel Attacked While Patrolling Vaquita Refuge in Gulf of California

Non-profit marine wildlife conservation organization Sea Shepherd reports that they were attacked by poachers this week while patrolling inside the Vaquita Refuge in the Upper Gulf of California.

Earlier in the day, Sea Shepherd had recovered three illegal gillnets, which pose a threat to the critically endangered vaquita porpoise. The gillnets are mostly meant to catch the endangered totoaba fish, which are targeted for their valuable swim bladders, however, the illegal fishing nets also harm the vaquita.
